Most medical insurance plans do not cover extractions or sedation for tooth extractions; these are considered dental procedures.

Information regarding Medicare

Medicare DOES NOT pay for tooth extractions, or sedation/anesthesia for tooth extractions for any reason when they are performed in an out-patient dental office such as ours. These procedures, although sometimes surgical and usually medically necessary for your health, are regarded by all medical insurances as a dental procedure. Your supplemental insurance may have some dental coverage. If you choose to come to our office to have teeth extracted, you will be required to pay in full and we will not send a claim to Medicare. We will send a claim to supplemental dental insurance and reimburse you if your insurance pays anything.

We will submit a claim to Medicare for these procedures only:

  • Oral biopsy

  • Oral lesion excision

  • Jaw fracture

There are extremely limited circumstances in which Medicare would cover any oral procedure; all of these circumstances involve care while admitted to a hospital. You can read more about this here.
